SIMPLE STEPS

ISoM Performing Artist Graded Examinations can be completed remotely, allowing candidates to take their exam in a familiar and comfortable environment.

ISoM Performing Artist Graded Examinations do not require any specialist equipment – recording and uploading your performance has never been so easy.

You can make your recording on any audio-visual recording device you have available, such as a smartphone, tablet, video recorder or laptop.

The recording must be of a good quality, and the image of the candidate must be stable and clear. For recorded examinations, candidates must submit their performances with a visible timestamp showing that they were recorded on the same day.

3. Record your performance

Once your ID has been approved, you can upload the recording of your examination.

The recording must be of a good quality, and the image of the candidate must be stable and clear.

To ensure good quality recordings, make sure you:

  • check the quality of recording equipment in advance of recording your exam

  • stabilise the recording equipment

  • position the recording equipment from an audience perspective so that the candidate can be clearly seen playing their instrument

  • position the recording equipment close enough to the candidate that the sound is clear and audible

  • remove any objects which may obstruct the image and/or sound of the recording

  • conduct recordings in a quiet environment to reduce background noise

Candidates may record multiple takes; however, all performances must be recorded on the same day.

During the recording, candidates must also show on camera the same ID that was uploaded during the registration process.

4. Upload your recording

Once you are happy with your recordings, combine them into one file and upload it through your account.

All performances must be included within a single uploaded file.

When your submission is complete, submit your recording for assessment. For more information about what to expect on the day, visit the examination page.

Who can register?

You don’t have to be a teacher to register for an exam. ISoM is passionate about removing barriers to examinations for everyone, which means that individuals can arrange their examinations to suit them. Whether a teacher, parent/guardian or candidate, the process will follow the above. Please do be aware, if booking on behalf of someone else, you will need to relay the relevant information.
